Walter Mears

Graveside services for Walter Ray Mears, Sr., 89, longtime resident of Alvarado, will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, in the Pleasant Point Cemetery, Alvarado with Chaplain Eddy Carrell officiating. There will be an open visitation at Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Funeral Home from 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M., on Monday, February 14, 2022.

Walter was born to Jesse Lawson and Lula Thompson Mears on October 16, 1932, in Bosque County, Texas. He married Hazel Janice Jordan on March 25, 1961, in Glen Rose, Texas. Walter was of the Christian faith. He loved farming and raising chickens as well as tending to and riding his horses. He was a well-known and accomplished fiddle player, having won countless contests in his lifetime. Walter also enjoyed hunting, especially during dove and quail season. Walter was a soft-spoken man with an ornery streak and feisty nature. He will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Peggy Kitchens; granddaughter, Jessica Kitchens; and siblings & their spouses, Katherine Roberts, Visie Scarberry, Delta & Bill Shad and Arthur & Norma Mears.

Survivors include his son, Walter Ray Mears, Jr.; son-in-law, Kevin Kitchens; grandchildren & their spouses, Erika Mears, Courtney & Dillon Goodson, Joel & Samantha Kitchens and Jeremy & Brandi Kitchens; great- grandchildren, Carson Goodson, Payton Goodson and Parker Lamm; siblings, Jesse Mears and Laveda Moore; brothers-in-law, Wondo Scarberry and Jerry Roberts; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
