On the 20th of September, 1936, Wanda Lou Pittman was born at home in Fort Worth, Texas to Eva Lee ( a homemaker) and Loyd Pittman ( a mechanic). Wanda was baptized at the Sam Rosen Heights Baptist Church in Fort Worth, where she lived until she was married. She loved school and attended Sam Rosen Elementary and Technical High School, where she excelled in Math and English. She also loved music and played the bass violin and the flute.
Wanda at age 22 met her future husband, Don Jernigan, 29, at the drug store where she worked in Fort Worth, near TCU, where he was a student. After a couple of years, he proposed. Shortly thereafter, they were married by Reverend Hal Potts, on August 16, 1958, at the Godley Baptist Church. They then moved to Houston, Cleburne, Chicago and then back to Godley in 1972, where they have lived and worked for the past forty years. They were blessed with two children, Janis Marie Jernigan and Robert (Roni) Lyndon Jernigan.
Wanda was an outgoing, strong woman and leader. She loved people, never met a stranger and helped many through tough and trying times with her love, loyalty and kindness.
Wanda was an avid reader, excellent seamstress, cook and partner. She had an especially tender heart for babies of all kinds and took in and cared for many in need throughout her life. She enjoyed playing on softball leagues, bowling leagues and volunteered many years as a Girl Scout leader. She loved her family, friends and customers. She loved her community of Godley, Texas.
