Weldon A. “Buddy” Simmons, Sr., 96, of Cleburne, a lifelong resident of Johnson County, passed away on April 23, 2017 in Keene, TX. Visitation will be held at Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 26, 2017. Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel, with interment at Cleburne Memorial Cemetery.

Buddy Simmons was born September 13, 1920 in Cresson, TX, one of ten children born to Robert Jefferson and Nettie (Drommond) Simmons.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Pacific Campaign and participating in the liberation of the Philippines in 1945. After returning to Cleburne, he was active in the restaurant business for many years, until his retirement from Chaf-In in 1983.

He married Marguerite Scott in May 1940. She was his loving wife and best friend for 65 years. She, their son Michael Simmons, and seven siblings preceded him in death.

Buddy was a long-time member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, a Scottish-Rite Mason and member of Cleburne Masonic Lodge #315 for over 50 years and an honorary lifetime member of Cleburne Elks Lodge #811.

Survivors include son Bud Simmons and wife Claudette of Kingwood; granddaughter Jennifer Oliver (David) of Fulshear and Shannon Velazquez (Sal) of Austin and great-grandchildren Ethan and Matthew Oliver and Amelia, Alicia and Addie Velazquez. He is also survived by two very loving sisters, Sue Logsdon (Clois) and Wanda Ellis; special sister-in-law, Mildred Beal, and many loving and supportive nieces, nephews and friends.

Buddy was a loving, caring and generous man. He served God, country, community and especially his family throughout his life. He touched many lives and will be dearly missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church or Meals-on-Wheels of Johnson County.
