Winnie Smith

Winnie I. Smith died August 13, 2005 in Keene. She was born April 7, 1905 in the Indian territory of Oklahoma to John Wesley and Walise E. Capps Hammons. She traveled to Texas in a covered wagon in 1906 and settled with her family in the Parker and Covington Communities. She married Wright R. Smith on March 7, 1923 in Cleburne. Mrs. Smith was a retired seamstress for Walls Industries and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her son, Don Smith and wife Janice of Cedar Hill; grandchildren, Amy Heiland of Mansfield, Barry Smith of Venus and Tina Jones of Godley; great grandchildren, Amanda and Trenton Heiland, Tyler, Treavor and Brittney Smith, Danielle and Patrick Jones; step-brothers, Charles Hammons of Carrolton and Jim Hammons of Waco; step-sister, Billie Frances Martin of Arlington; many nieces, nephews and her extended family the Martin Griffith family. She was preceded in death by her husband on Nov. 13, 1981; son, J.W. Smith in 1942; daughter, Bettye Ross in 1991 and 4 younger sisters.
