Funeral services for Winnie Groves Staples, of Godley, will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, August 22, 2005 at Cleburne's Crosier-Pearson-Mayfield Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brent Ferren officiating. Burial will be in Godley Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM, Sunday, at Cleburne's Crosier-Pearson.
Winnie Groves Staples, 88, a retired teacher, passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2005 in Cleburne. She was born in Hermleigh, Texas, August 2, 1917, the daughter of Luther Tom and Katie Jane Kidd Groves. She married H.D. "Doc" Staples July 17, 1938 in Heimleigh, Texas. Mrs. Staples was a member of the First Baptist Church of Godley for sixty-two years. She was employed by the Aircraft Industry in Fort Worth for four years during the war. She then taught first grade in Cresson for five years and for fifteen years taught in Joshua. She was member of the Godley Lions Club and together with her husband was a member of the Lake Pat Cleburne Good Sam's Travel Club.
Mrs. Staples is survived by her husband, H.D "Doc" Staples, of Godley; son, Dwin Staples and wife, Margaret, of Glen Rose; grandsons, Clint Staples and wife, Jylyce, of Granbury and Steve Staples and wife, Shiloh, also of Granbury; great-granddaughter, Abigail Staples and several nieces and nephews.
