Woodland Samuel Brown passed away May 13, 2006 in Cleburne, Texas at the age of 86. He was born in Aubrey, Denton County, Texas on November 28, 1919 to Same E. and Cora Vaughn Brown.
Mr. Brown broke horses for the U. S. Calvary before joining the U. S. Naval Seabee Battalion and serving on Guadalcanal, Pacific Theater of World War II. He was a Machinist's Mate Third Class and honorably discharged in 1945. He worked for Shell Oil Co. before becoming a self-employed dairy farmer and later retired from Johnson County Electric. He was a deacon and member of First Baptist Church, Godley for the past 39 years.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Betty Brown; daughters Sharon Lawler of Glen Rose; Beverley Davis; Gwenda Carrell and husband Roy; Koleen Threadgill and husband Danny all of Godley; 9 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Dewane Brown; parents Sam and Cora Brown, brothers Marvin Brown, Bud Brown and Junior Brown; sisters Ethel Brown, Ruby Eagle, Marlea Williams and Lola Crowder.
Woodland enjoyed gardening and life, time with family and friends and will be missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be sent to First Baptist Church, Godley and designated for the building fund.
